About Lia Sova
Lia Sova is certified to teach art in grades K-12. She is a graduate of
Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and holds a degree in both Art Education and Psychology.
She has three years public school teaching experience at Oakville Elementary in Mehlville
School District in St. Louis, MO.
|
In June of 2004, she and her husband Marc Sova opened Smock Paper Scissors
Art Academy in Collinsville, IL! In September 2006, Lia and Marc relocated SPS Art Academy to Edwardsville, IL.
For the past five years, SPS has given Lia the fortunate experience of teaching smaller groups of talented kids
who love art and working with families who support the arts! It has been a dream
come true!
|
Lia's approach to teaching is infused with the four elements of a Discipline Based Art
Education (DBAE) which are: art history, art production, art aesthetics, and art criticism.
She remains current in her field by attending professional development art education conferences
and through continuous online research.
As an artist, Lia loves to paint and work with clay and has been inspired by her Mexican
heritage. During her education, she traveled to the small village of Tlaxiaco in Oaxaca, Mexico to
study with Mixtec potters. She is inspired by the paintings of Frida Kahlo and other famous artists.
